Outdoor Man Soap

final

When guys come home from being outdoors for a while, you might hope they would smell fresh and clean like their recent surroundings but, more likely than not, they don’t. 🙂 This beautiful bar of soap will get them cleaned up and leave them smelling great (with a design you both can love).

What You’ll Need:

12 oz Distilled Water
5.15 oz Lye
3.9 oz Apricot Kernel Oil
4.5 oz Avocado Oil
1.6 oz Castor Oil
10.5 oz Coconut Oil
11 oz Palm Oil
4.5 oz Rice Bran Oil

2.1 oz Drakkar FO
1/2 tsp. Pewter Silver Mica
1/2 tsp. Apple Moss Mica
1/2 tsp. Bronze Mica
1/2 tsp. Racing Stripe Orange Mica

9 Bar Unfinished Birchwood Mold
4 Easy Pour Containers

**If you are not local, you can get all of this and more at Bramble Berry! They will ship directly to you!**

_____

COLOR PREP:

In small ramekins or dixie cups, measure out each mica and add 1 tbsp. of any fixed oil. We used sweet almond oil. Mix using Bramble Berry’s mini mixer and set aside.

We also drew a line on each easy pour container to show exactly where 12 oz was. This will make it easier to separate the soap batter out.

Weigh out 2.1 oz Drakkar FO into a container and set aside.

1

LYE PREP:

Separately weigh out the distilled water and lye into glass containers. As always, carefully add the lye to the water and gently stir with a stainless steel whisk until solution is clear. You can label and set aside, or you can put it into a designated freezer to cool down faster.

While the lye is cooling, weigh out all the oils in a large glass pyrex bowl and heat in the microwave until the oils are around 100 degrees.

Once the oils and lye solution are around 100 degrees (between 15 degrees of each other) you can now make your soap. Make sure you have gloves, goggles and long sleeves on while you are starting to make soap.

Put the stick blender into the oils and burp the blender so you avoid mixing in any air bubbles. Pour the lye solution down the arm of the stick blender and start mixing until you have reached trace.

2 3

Once you have come to trace, separate the soap batter into the easy pour containers. You want 12 oz in each.

4

After the soap is separated, pour the colors into each easy pour container and mix in with a stirring utensil. We use a fork so we don’t thicken trace.

5 6

In each easy pour container, eyeball the fragrance oil into each container and mix together until fully incorporated.

7

Once the fragrance oil is incorporated, decide on a color pattern you’d like to go with and start doing an ‘S’ pattern inside the mold.

8 9 10

When you get to the last bit of soap, try and put even lines of each color. This will make the swirling technique really pop!

11

Grab your swirling utensil (we used the back of a paint brush) and start doing linear swirls through the soap.

We finished with going around the edges a few times to give it a slight turned look!

12

Spray the top with 99% rubbing alcohol to help reduce soda ash and cover to encourage gel phase. Leave the soap in the mold a few days before unmolding!

After Shave Lotion

After Shave Lotion Final

Beards and man-buns seem to be on trend and here to stay, but clean shaven is always a classic look. When dealing with such sensitive face skin it’s nice to have a product that protects from irritation and offers a boost of skin loving moisturizers. We’ve included just a hint of peppermint essential oil for that fresh and clean feeling too. So whether your shaving routine is just cleaning up around the edges, or if you’re going for a more clean shaven look, this thin after shave lotion will keep your skin happy.

What You’ll Need:

16 oz Distilled Water
1 oz Emulsifying Wax
1.5 oz Fractionated Coconut Oil
0.9 oz Apricot Kernel Oil
0.1 oz Evening Primrose Extract
0.1 oz Oat Extract
0.2 oz Optiphen
0.1 oz Peppermint 1st EO

**If you are not local, you can get all of this and more at Bramble Berry! They will ship directly to you!**

_____

In a medium pyrex bowl weigh out the oils and emulsifying wax. Once weighed out, heat in the microwave until the emulsifying wax is completely melted.

1 2 3

While the oils and waxes are heating in the microwave, in a smaller pyrex bowl weigh out the distilled water.

4

Once the oils and waxes are heated and melted, put the water in the microwave for about a minute. You want the water to be about 135 degrees F.

As the water is in the microwave, in a small container or mug weigh out the extracts, optiphen and essential oil. Set aside.

5 6

When everything is heated, grab the stick blender and and put it in the oils. Pour the water down the shaft of the stick blender and blend into the oils.

7

Once you think you are done blending, blend for 2 more minutes! This recipe is going to be a bit thinner then most lotion recipes, which makes it hard to tell when it gets fully emulsified.

Once it is all mixed together, add in the extracts, optiphen and essential oil. You will notice that the lotion consistency will get thinner again. Blend together for about 30 seconds then pour into lotion bottles.

8 9

Leave the caps off the bottles for 24 hours so the lotion can get back to room temperature. Once the lotion is at room temperature you can cap the bottles are use after shaving!
